Middle Eastern steelmakers are intensifying efforts to reduce carbon emissions and position themselves as leaders in the green steel sector, highlighted during the London Metal Exchange's annual LME Week. The region's rich natural gas reserves and favorable conditions for renewable energy production provide a competitive edge. The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is expected to further enhance this advantage, allowing Middle Eastern producers to capture market share. Significant investments are underway, including a planned 6 million tonnes per year green steel plant in the UAE and partnerships for low-carbon steel supply, as the region aims to meet growing global demands for sustainable steel.
