Liberty Galati, Romania’s largest steel mill, has restarted operations after nearly a year of inactivity. The company reactivated blast furnace No. 5, marking a significant milestone in its restructuring efforts.
Initially, the mill aims to produce around 4,300 metric tons of steel per day, with plans to gradually increase output to 6,500 metric tons daily to reach break-even levels. Alongside the production restart, negotiations continue with approximately 1,200 creditors to finalize the company’s restructuring plan.
Liberty Galati plays a crucial role in Romania’s economy, contributing around €100 million annually in taxes and supplying steel for key sectors such as defense, infrastructure, and construction. The restart is expected to stabilize operations and support the country’s industrial supply chain.
