Kuwait's mills have lowered their wholesale rebar prices to KD 180 per tonne ($589) ex-works, down from KD 181-183 per tonne, to better compete with imported materials.
This price reduction is accompanied by a strategic shift as mills begin direct communication with contractors, potentially jeopardizing their relationships with traditional rebar traders, according to Kallanish.
While imported rebar is offered at KD 175-178 per tonne for cash deliveries on government projects, local mills are positioning themselves with competitive pricing to regain market share lost to Omani and Saudi suppliers.
