In April 2024, Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Ltd (KFIL), a castings and pig iron producer, resumed operations of its mini blast furnace at its Hiriyur mill. KFIL had previously shut down the blast furnace on February 22, 2024, due to weak demand and low pig iron prices.
The restart signifies KFIL's strategic approach to operational management, emphasizing sustainability and efficiency in production processes amidst fluctuating market dynamics. The Hiriyur mill has an annual crude steel capacity of 155,000 mt, accompanied by a 250,000 mt sinter plant and a 4MW captive power plant.
