Kazakhstan has been recognised as one of the top 10 countries for significant iron ore production and reserves in 2022, according to the latest United States Geological Survey (USGS) released in January of the previous year. As reported by Energyprom.kz agency on March 7, Kazakhstan secured the ninth position in output by producing 66 million tons of iron ore during that year. Globally, nearly 2.8 billion tons of metal were extracted in 2022, with iron ore constituting a substantial portion at 93.3%, equivalent to 2.6 billion tons. Out of this total, 1.6 billion tons contained iron content. The leading countries in iron ore production were Australia with 880 million tons, Brazil with 410 million tons, China with 380 million tons, and India with 290 million tons.
