Kazakhstan will impose a six-month ban on the export of steel billets and semi-finished products starting December 1, 2024. This decision, signed by the Minister of Industry and Construction on November 11, aims to enhance domestic steel production by fostering the creation of higher value-added steel products. The ban also follows an extension of the prohibition on ferrous and non-ferrous scrap exports. In the first nine months of 2024, Kazakhstan exported significant quantities of semi-finished products, including over 11,000 tons of billets to Turkey. The government seeks to bolster local production and increase the steel sector's contribution to GDP.
