Japan's JFE Steel has applied for a government subsidy under the Green Transformation Promotion Act (GX) to support its decarbonization efforts. The company aims to secure funding for a new large electric arc furnace (EAF) to replace blast furnace No. 2 at its West Japan Works in Kurashiki, with plans for the EAF to be operational by the 2027/2028 fiscal year. This initiative follows similar applications from Nippon Steel and aligns with Japan's broader strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the steel industry, which is a significant contributor to the country's overall emissions.
