Japan's ferrous scrap exports saw a significant decline in October 2024, totaling 557,091 metric tons, down 20.1% from 697,125 metric tons in the same month last year. For the January-October period, exports reached 5.23 million metric tons, reflecting a year-on-year decrease of 10.1%.
Vietnam emerged as the largest importer of Japanese scrap during this period, importing 2.0 million metric tons—an increase of 53.9% compared to the previous year. In contrast, South Korea and Taiwan experienced declines in imports, with South Korea importing 1.32 million metric tons (down 43.4%) and Taiwan importing 544,829 metric tons (down 34.1%).
Additionally, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh rose to 502,417 metric tons from 408,119 metric tons in the same timeframe last year.
