Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Egypt have surpassed their hot-rolled coil (HRC) export quotas to the European Union. The EU’s quota system, which allows a certain amount of duty-free HRC imports, was exceeded by these countries as they rushed to export their steel products.
Japan exported nearly 250,000 tons of HRC in June and July, while Vietnam’s exports totaled over 80,000 tons during the same period. Taiwan also approached its quota limit with around 150,000 tons exported.
Egypt, benefiting from shorter transit times, continued to export significant volumes. This surge in exports comes amid ongoing anti-dumping investigations and calls for stricter import restrictions by European steel producers.
