The Italian steel trade association, Assofermet, has voiced significant concerns over the revised safeguard measures introduced by the European Commission. The association is calling for an exemption from the 15% cap per origin over the “other country” tariff-rate quota (TRQ) for hot rolled coil (HRC) for contracts established before May 31st.
Assofermet warns that the new measures, which extend safeguards until 2026, could lead to a substantial shortage of over 1.6 million tonnes of steel for EU users. The association’s demand highlights the ongoing challenges in the steel market and the impact of regulatory decisions on trade and supply chains.
