Italian rebar producers are aiming to implement price increases of €20-30 per tonne to counteract recent price declines and recover lost margins. The rising costs of production, particularly energy expenses, have significantly impacted their financial stability.
Despite these efforts, the outlook for the end of the year remains pessimistic due to low downstream orders and reduced consumption. Buyers are skeptical about the sustainability of the price hikes, and the distribution sector is proceeding with caution. Current transaction values for domestic rebar range from €290-300 per tonne base ex-works, with additional charges for size extras.
Some steelmakers have temporarily halted sales due to uncertainty in pricing decisions, while the market continues to face pressure from cheaper imports.
