Italian rebar makers are pushing for price increases despite a sluggish market. Following a decline of nearly €30 per tonne since February, rebar transactions have stabilized on a weekly basis. Current offers from mills are set at €340 per tonne base ex-works, while domestic contracts are being concluded at €300-310 per tonne ex-works. Effective values, including size extras, average €560-570 per tonne ex-works.
Demand has dropped notably due to adverse weather conditions, which have delayed construction projects and impacted rebar purchases. While steelmakers have announced price hikes, many buyers are hesitant to accept the increases, with some still securing material at around €300 per tonne.
The market remains cautious, with limited trading activity and short order books. Domestic mesh contracts are also stable, priced at €390-400 per tonne depending on volumes, excluding transport costs and size extras. Market participants are closely monitoring developments as the situation unfolds.
