Italian company Danieli has secured a contract to supply a new three-strand billet caster to Muhaj Baghdad, an Iraqi steel producer. The continuous casting machine will be installed in the Babil (Babylon) region of Iraq.
The billet caster will have an annual production capacity of 500,000 metric tons of rebar grades in a 130x130 mm section. It will feed the high-speed rebar mill, also recently ordered from Danieli, in hot-charge mode.
Key features of the new caster include a 1000-mm-long mould, multiple unbending points with 7- and 13-meter radii, and a four-zone water-cooling system. Danieli Automation process control will ensure smooth operation of the new caster and rolling mill, which will feature hot-charge operation at a rate of 70 tons per hour.
This investment by Muhaj Baghdad aims to enhance its rebar production capabilities by leveraging Danieli's advanced continuous casting and rolling technologies.
