The Indian Ministry of Steel has launched the upgraded Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS 2.0) portal, aimed at enhancing steel import monitoring and supporting domestic industry growth.
Unveiled by Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on July 25, the portal features API integration with government systems and a robust data entry mechanism, facilitating improved risk management.
The initiative responds to industry feedback and is part of the government's 100-day agenda. Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of accurate monitoring to maintain a healthy trade balance and reduce reliance on imports, which totaled around 8 million tonnes in FY24.
