India is planning to enhance coking coal blending for steel mills from the current 12% to 30-35%, aiming to reduce import dependency.
Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy announced this initiative on July 30, 2024, alongside the launch of "Mission Coking Coal," which targets domestic production of 140 million metric tons by 2030.
A new sub-sector will also be established to ensure long-term coal supply linkages from identified mines to steel mills, promoting domestic coal use in the steel industry.
