In 2023, the import share of the plate market in Poland surged to 90%, up from 59% in 2013. This significant increase is attributed to the decline in local production, which fell by 52% over the past decade. The main suppliers of plate to Poland include Italy, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, and Finland.
Despite the stable market volume of around 1.06 million tons annually, the domestic production struggles, with major producers like Huta Czestochowa halting operations due to bankruptcy. This reliance on imports underscores the challenges faced by Poland’s steel industry.
