Hyundai Motor Company and General Motors (GM) have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore potential collaborations in vehicle development and sourcing strategies. The agreement, announced on September 12, 2024, aims to leverage the strengths of both companies to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Key areas of focus include the co-development and production of passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as advancements in internal combustion engines and clean energy technologies, including electric and hydrogen solutions. Additionally, the two automakers will investigate opportunities for combined sourcing of essential materials such as battery raw materials and steel.
Mary Barra, GM's Chair and CEO, emphasized that this partnership could streamline vehicle development processes, enabling both companies to deliver more competitive products to consumers more rapidly.
