Hydnum Steel will unveil the results of its Citizen Participation Plan on September 9 in Puertollano, where it plans to build a state-of-the-art clean steel facility. The initiative reflects the company’s commitment to transparency and regional integration, with feedback gathered through themed working groups and public dialogue sessions held in May.
Local stakeholders expressed strong support for the project, which aims to produce 1.5 million tonnes of steel annually using scrap and direct reduced iron, powered by renewable energy and green hydrogen. The plant will feature AI-driven production systems and a closed-loop water recycling design to achieve near-zero emissions.
Designated a Priority Project by the Castilla-La Mancha regional government and backed by €60 million from Spain’s PERTE programme for Industrial Decarbonisation, the facility is expected to begin construction by the end of 2025. Hydnum Steel’s approach aligns with broader European trends emphasizing community engagement, sustainability, and industrial transformation.
