Global crude steel production totaled 152.8 million metric tons in July 2024, marking a 4.7% decrease compared to the same month in 2023. This decline was driven by a significant drop in output from China, the world’s largest steel producer, which saw a 9% reduction to 82.9 million metric tons. In contrast, India reported a 6.8% increase in production, reaching 12.3 million metric tons.
Other major steel-producing countries, including Japan and South Korea, also experienced declines, while Brazil and Germany saw increases in their output. The overall production for the first seven months of 2024 was 1.1 billion metric tons, down 0.7% year on year.
