Germany's sheet forming industry has expressed pessimism about business prospects for 2025, according to a survey conducted by the trade association Industrieverband Blechumformung (IBU). Over 70 percent of member companies reported a drop in revenues for 2024, with only one in four experiencing growth. The outlook for 2025 remains uncertain, with 60 percent of respondents expressing concerns about the economic environment.
Key customer industries, including mechanical engineering, automotive, electrical, and construction, have been cautious in placing orders. As a result, nearly 60 percent of sheet forming companies are cutting jobs or implementing short-time work. Despite these challenges, 45 percent of companies are still planning to invest, although one-third of these investments are directed toward locations outside Germany.
IBU has called for government action to restore confidence and provide planning security through clear goals and effective measures. The industry is advocating for reduced bureaucracy, lower electricity costs, tax cuts, and infrastructural investments. Concerns have also been raised about the impact of minimum wage increases, which could lead to wage pressures across different employee groups.
