Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau has postponed its decision to build a new specialty steel plant in Mexico until July. The plant, which would have an annual capacity of about 600,000 tons, was initially planned with an investment of $500-600 million. Gerdau's CEO, Gustavo Werneck, stated that the company is reassessing its plans due to recent developments, including US tariffs. Instead of the Mexican plant, Gerdau may increase production capacity in the United States, where it already benefits from tariffs due to its existing production units. The company recently acquired ferrous scrap processing assets in the US for $60 million.
