French long steel prices have largely stabilized following a €10-15 per tonne increase observed in March. However, profitability remains a concern for producers, service centers, and end-users. The outlook for May appears unfavorable, with multiple sources predicting a decline in longs prices and potential decreases in coil derivative values.
Seasonal demand in May is expected to drop significantly, adding to market uncertainty. Despite producers' efforts to push for price increases, particularly for flat products, no significant hikes are anticipated in the coming weeks.
The domestic rebar market remains flat, with prices averaging €630-645 per tonne delivered. Merchant bar prices are also stable, ranging from €250-260 per tonne base delivered, with effective prices, including size extras, at €670-690 per tonne delivered.
