European steelmakers, trade associations, and construction firms have formed the Buy Better to Build Better coalition to promote sustainable procurement practices. The initiative, unveiled at the European Parliament, aims to integrate low-carbon and circular construction solutions into public procurement policies.
The coalition advocates for a revision of EU procurement directives to prioritize sustainability over cost alone. Members include steel recycling trade association Euric and Italian steelmakers Ori Martin and Riva Group. Industry leaders emphasize that leveraging public purchasing power could accelerate the transition to greener industrial practices.
