European heavy plate prices continued to decline in mid-June as mills grew more flexible to secure orders for July and early August. Spot market activity remained subdued, with buyers hesitant to commit amid uncertainty over price floors.
In Italy, domestic tradable values were reported at €600–620 per tonne ex-works, while delivered prices ranged from €620–650 depending on location and specification. Import offers from Asia hovered around €590–600 per tonne CIF, but failed to attract interest due to minimal price gaps and logistical uncertainties.
On the slab side, offers into Italy were seen at $490–500 per tonne CIF, mainly from China, India, and Russia. Slabs for coil production from Indonesia were reportedly available as low as $470 per tonne CIF.
Market participants noted that mills are prioritizing throughput over price stability, with €600 per tonne emerging as a psychological support level.
