Recent price increases for hot-rolled coil (HRC) in the European Union are beginning to show positive results. Contracts for HRC have been concluded at higher prices, with some deals reaching €590 per tonne, up from the previous average of €530-540 per tonne. This increase follows recent hikes implemented by major producers like ArcelorMittal.
Despite the higher prices, transaction volumes remain low, and the market is still adjusting to the new pricing levels. The automotive sector, in particular, is experiencing a slowdown, which is affecting downstream demand for flat steel. However, the EU’s protectionist measures have limited the availability of cheaper imports, supporting the price increases.
