Saeed Al Ghafri, CEO of Emirates Steel, announced a new initiative to produce low-carbon steel in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with Japanese partners. Speaking at the Middle East Iron and Steel Conference 2024 in Dubai, Al Ghafri stated that the project is currently in the feasibility study phase and is not expected to commence commercial production before 2027. The initiative aims to meet the rising global demand for sustainable products and reflects Emirates Steel's commitment to innovative technologies that reduce carbon footprints. The project will utilize hydrogen as a clean energy source for producing "green steel." Al Ghafri emphasized the importance of government and financial support during the initial stages of innovation, highlighting the potential for significant returns on investment as production scales up.
