Emirates Steel is set to increase its steelmaking capacity to 8 million tonnes per year and collaborate internationally to build a 15 million tonnes per year direct reduced iron hub in Abu Dhabi.
The company's chief project officer, Hassan Shashaa, announced this plan at the Danieli "Innovaction" Meeting in Udine last week. The first phase of the project, to be announced in June, includes building a 7 million tonnes per year iron ore pelletising plant and a 2.5 million tonnes.
