Egypt's iron and steel imports rose by 20.9% in 2024, reaching $5.179 billion compared to $4.285 billion in 2023, according to foreign trade data. The sector accounted for 5.5% of the country's total imports, which amounted to $94.698 billion.
Five countries—China, Russia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Turkey—represented 68.5% of Egypt's total iron and steel imports, valued at $3.546 billion, a 28.6% increase from $2.757 billion in 2023. Imports from China rose by 42.4% to $987.723 million, while imports from Russia climbed by 72.2% to $967.31 million. Together, these two nations accounted for 37.7% of Egypt's imports, totaling approximately $1.955 billion.
Egypt's imports from the United Kingdom grew by 20.9% to $698.735 million, while imports from Belgium increased by 0.7% to $504.294 million. Imports from Lebanon rose by 16% to $117.768 million. However, imports from Turkey fell by 8.3% to $388.093 million, and those from India dropped by 13.6% to $173.81 million.
Notable increases included imports from Ukraine, which surged by 952.2% to $170.296 million, and from Indonesia, which jumped by 633.3% to $104.295 million.
