Italian steelmaker Cogne Acciai Speciali has announced that it is now sourcing all of its power needs in Europe from renewable energy. The company has further plans to build a hydroelectric plant and a 1-MW electrolyzer at its main site in Aosta. These projects are part of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan and are funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
The electrolyzer will produce 210 normal cubic meters of hydrogen per hour, which will be stored and made available to all users. The steelmaker expects to complete the construction of the electrolyzer and the hydroelectric plant by June 2026. This move is a significant step towards achieving the goal of producing green hydrogen, a clean and renewable energy resource.
Cogne Acciai Speciali operates seven production plants, five of which are in Europe, and is finalizing the acquisition of Mannesmann Stainless Tubes to strengthen its market position.
