China has announced plans to continue regulating steel production in 2024, without specifying the timing or scope of the restrictions. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will work with other departments to manage production this year, focusing on energy conservation and carbon reduction. This comes after Beijing ordered the steel sector not to increase production in 2021 and 2022 to limit carbon emissions, resulting in a decline in production and iron ore imports. Despite no public statement on the maximum level of steel production in 2023, last year's production volumes remained unchanged compared to the previous year, at 1.02 billion tons. The steel industry's focus on energy conservation and carbon reduction is expected to continue in 2024, with the collection of equipment information from steel producers across the country.
