Brazil's foreign trade authority, SECEX, has announced new steel import quotas totaling 529,113 metric tons, effective from October 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. These quotas replace those that expired on September 30, 2024. The quotas are allocated as follows: Plates in Coil (7,964 mt), HRC (54,030 mt), CRC (100,559 mt), Zinc Coated (156,709 mt), Galvalume (155,892 mt), Wire Rod (52,976 mt), and Seamed Piping (983 mt). As of mid-October, 63% of these quotas have already been utilized. Once the quotas are filled, a 25% import tax will apply to additional imports, up from the current average of 12%.
