Austrian steel production rose by 5.7% month-on-month in July 2024, reaching 669,000 tonnes, according to data from the WorldSteel Association. This increase places Austria 22nd in the global steel production rankings. Compared to July 2023, production also grew by 2.3%.
For the period from January to July 2024, Austria's steel output increased by 0.9% year-on-year, totaling 4.48 million tonnes. The average monthly production during this timeframe was 640,000 tonnes, slightly up from 634,100 tonnes in the same period last year.
In the broader European context, steel production in the EU rose by 1.5% during the first seven months of 2024, totaling 78 million tonnes. However, global steel production for the same period decreased by 0.7% year-on-year, amounting to 1.11 billion tonnes. Notably, Austria experienced a 5% decline in steel production in 2023 compared to 2022, producing 7.13 million tonnes.
