In a recent industrial mishap, ArcelorMittal’s Hamburg facility experienced a substantial spill of molten steel. The incident, which took place overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, resulted in approximately 140 tonnes of hot steel leaking into a containment area. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection with the event.
The local press initially reported an estimated 80 tonnes of molten metal spillage, but the company later confirmed the larger figure. ArcelorMittal Hamburg, noted for being Europe’s sole direct reduced iron-based steelworks, has not disclosed the full extent of the damage or the potential impact on production schedules.
In response to the spill, ArcelorMittal issued a statement assuring that repair efforts are underway and that they aim to resume production at the earliest opportunity.
