According to the latest World Steel report, crude steel production in Arab countries reached 3.4 million tons in April 2025, marking a 1.7% year-on-year increase. Despite overall growth, production varied across regions, with some countries experiencing declines while others posted significant gains.
Egypt remained the leading producer with 831,000 tons, though it saw a 7.2% decline. Saudi Arabia followed with 757,000 tons, down by 6.1%, while Algeria recorded the highest increase, producing 460,000 tons, up 31.4% from April 2024.
In the first four months of 2025, Arab crude steel production totaled 13.9 million tons, rising by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2024. The Gulf region saw a decline of 2.8% to 6.6 million tons, accounting for nearly half of total Arab steel production. In contrast, North Africa’s output grew by 6.5% to 6.2 million tons, largely driven by Algeria’s strong performance.
Production in the Eastern Mediterranean remained stable at 1.1 million tons, representing 8% of total Arab steel output. While regional differences remain, Arab countries continue to strengthen their presence in global steel markets despite shifting economic conditions.
