According to the World Steel Organization, Arab countries' crude steel production in December 2024 reached 3.7 million tons, a 3.2% increase compared to December 2023. Egypt led the production with 991.2 thousand tons, up 5.3%, followed by Saudi Arabia with 902.6 thousand tons, up 0.4%, and Algeria with 420.0 thousand tons, up 10.5%.
From January to December 2024, crude steel production in Arab countries amounted to 40.8 million tons, a 2.6% increase compared to the previous year. Egypt was the top producer with 10.7 million tons, up 3.6%, followed by Saudi Arabia with 9.6 million tons, down 3.4%, and Algeria with 4.5 million tons, up 2.2%.
The Gulf region produced 19.7 million tons of crude steel, accounting for 48% of Arab countries' production, with Saudi Arabia leading the region. The North Africa region produced 17.6 million tons, accounting for 43% of the total, with Egypt as the leader. The Eastern Mediterranean region produced 3.4 million tons, accounting for 9%, with Iraq leading the production in that region.
