Chilean steel producer Aceros AZA has inaugurated a new scrap shredding unit at its Colina plant, following an investment of $26 million. The facility is designed to enhance the company’s production of over 450,000 metric tons of green steel annually from recycled scrap.
The shredder can process up to 100 metric tons of scrap per hour, reducing CO2 emissions by 7,000 metric tons annually and cutting energy consumption by 2.5%. At full capacity, it will handle 230,000 metric tons of scrap per year, yielding 180,000 metric tons of ferrous material, 3,000 metric tons of non-ferrous materials, and 40,000 metric tons of byproducts. This development aligns with Aceros AZA’s commitment to sustainability and advancing a circular economy.
