Acciaierie d’Italia (ADI) has resumed logistics operations and is investing in the rehabilitation of its shipping fleet to enhance efficiency and competitiveness.
The initiative includes restoring strategic ships, with the Gemma vessel already back in service after being stranded in Singapore for over three years. The flagship vessel, Ursa Minor, is also set to resume operations, transporting products from Taranto to northern Italy.
Meanwhile, Marcegaglia, an Italian steelmaker, has shown interest in acquiring parts of ADI’s assets, specifically the tube mills and a re-rolling plant in northern Italy.
The government is being urged to maintain a shareholding in ADI to ensure proper management. ADI aims to produce 1.9-2.2 million tonnes of steel this year, with plans to restart additional blast furnaces in the coming months.
