According to AISU, Arab countries’ crude steel production increased by 1.7% from January to October 2024, totaling 33.6 million tons, according to the World Steel Organization. In October alone, production reached 3.6 million tons, marking a 0.4% rise compared to October 2023. Egypt led the region with a production of 950,000 tons in October, despite a 7.3% decline, followed by Saudi Arabia at 840,000 tons, down 2.4%. Algeria saw an increase of 8.1%, producing 400,000 tons.
For the January-October period, Egypt produced 8.9 million tons (up 4.8%), Saudi Arabia produced 7.9 million tons (down 4.9%), and Algeria produced 3.7 million tons (up 1.4%). The Gulf region accounted for approximately 48% of total production, while North Africa contributed 43%, with Egypt dominating that sector at 61%. The Eastern Mediterranean region made up the remaining 9%, with Iraq leading at 88% of its production.
