US steelmakers are advocating for a robust five-point plan aimed at bolstering the manufacturing sector, as outlined by the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA). The proposal, directed to President-elect Donald Trump’s team, emphasizes the need for immediate action to enhance domestic production and protect American jobs. SMA President Philip K. Bell highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by non-market economies that flood the US market with subsidized steel, undermining local manufacturers.
The SMA's plan includes increasing tariffs to support domestic production, opposing unfair trade practices, reducing excessive regulations, implementing pro-growth tax policies, and monetizing environmental benefits.
