Polish Steel Rebar and Wire Rod Prices Continue to Decline Amid Weak Demand

Domestic prices for steel rebar and wire rod in Poland have decreased further due to persistently low demand and a lack of restocking activity. As of October 4, Polish mills have announced lower offers for October-delivery low-carbon drawing quality wire rod, with prices now ranging between 2,700-2,750 zloty per tonne. This is a drop from the 2,800-2,850 zloty per tonne range seen at the beginning of September.

The tradeable market level for wire rod is estimated to be around 2,650-2,700 zloty per tonne. Similarly, prices for Polish rebar have also decreased, with current offers at 2,530 zloty per tonne, down from 2,610-2,660 zloty per tonne at the start of the previous month. The tradeable market level for rebar is now estimated at 2,500 zloty per tonne.

The weak demand is attributed to the postponement of significant construction projects and uncertainty surrounding government programs aimed at supporting the residential construction sector. Import offers from Italy and Ukraine have also influenced the market, with prices for low-carbon drawing quality wire rod and mesh-quality material being competitive.

Market participants remain cautious, with no immediate signs of demand recovery. The situation is further complicated by ongoing geopolitical tensions in Ukraine and the Middle East, adding to the unpredictability of the market.
