Iraqi PM Addresses Obstacles in Basra Steel Factory Rehabilitation Project

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani chaired a special meeting on Sunday to address the obstacles hindering the rehabilitation of the steel factory in Basra Governorate, affiliated with the General Iron and Steel Company.

During the meeting, Al-Sudani was briefed on the progress of work related to the rehabilitation and operation of the project, which was initially scheduled to be opened two months ago but faced certain obstacles that prevented its timely completion. He listened to a comprehensive presentation on the procedures being carried out by the authorities responsible for implementing the project.

Al-Sudani stressed the necessity of removing all obstacles and technical problems that are hindering the completion of the project, including the installation of smelting equipment, systems, and production lines. He emphasized the importance of working more than one shift and operating 24 hours a day to expedite the process.

The Prime Minister also directed the implementing agencies to adhere to the agreed-upon time limits and follow the instructions he had given during his visit to the company in March, when he inaugurated the rolling mill.

The rehabilitation of the Basra steel factory is considered one of the lagging projects in the region, and Al-Sudani's intervention aims to ensure its successful completion and operation, contributing to the revival of Basra's steel industry.
