Steel rebar producers in Italy are increasing prices in response to rising energy costs and stronger seasonal demand. In early July, northern mills raised base offers to €260–275 per tonne ex-works, up from €240–250 the previous week. This translates to effective prices of €530–545 per tonne for 8–16mm bars. Recent deals were still closing at older levels, but traders expect further hikes before the summer holiday period.
In southern Italy, offers climbed to €290 per tonne ex-works, compared to a minimum of €270 previously, suggesting potential transaction levels around €560 per tonne. However, no major volumes were confirmed at these higher prices.
Fastmarkets’ weekly assessment for domestic rebar in Italy remained at €510–550 per tonne as of July 9. Mills are still delivering older orders at lower prices, but the upward trend reflects improved buyer sentiment and anticipation of tighter supply through August.
