Salzgitter Group, together with its subsidiary Ilsenburger Grobblech, has received official approval from Germany’s Military Technical Center 91 for its SECURE 500 steel grade. The certification covers thicknesses from 6 to 16 mm and confirms the steel’s suitability for use in military vehicles and protective systems.
The steel underwent extensive testing for weldability, ballistic resistance, and blast durability. It features a quenched and tempered martensitic microstructure, offering high hardness and dimensional precision. This approval strengthens Salzgitter’s position in the defense sector and reflects growing demand for high-performance materials amid geopolitical tensions.
The company is also pursuing certification for additional grades in the SECURE product family to expand its military offerings.
