In the week ending July 5, 2025, domestic raw steel production in the United States reached 1.781 million net tons, according to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Capacity utilization stood at 78.6%, showing a slight decline from the previous week’s 79.1%, when output was 1.776 million net tons.
Compared to the same week in 2024, this year’s production marks a 4.9% increase over the 1.698 million net tons recorded then, reflecting strong annual momentum in the industry. Year-to-date figures reveal that from January through July 5, 2025, steel production totaled 45.199 million net tons, with an average capacity utilization rate of 76%. This represents a 0.5% rise over the same period in 2024, when production was 44.973 million net tons.
The data indicates stable growth in output, even as weekly efficiency fluctuates slightly. This reflects resilient demand and a steady operational pace across the domestic steel sector. With global markets facing economic uncertainties and trade tensions, the steady year-on-year gains in US steel production are a reassuring signal of strength for the industry heading into the second half of the year.
