The European coil market is expected to remain weak throughout the summer, with no significant recovery in sight. Demand continues to lag, and both domestic and import pricing show limited momentum. Mills across southern and northern Europe report short lead times and subdued order volumes.
Asian suppliers are still offering highly competitive prices for large-volume shipments, with hot-rolled coil imports into Italy ranging from €460 to €490 per tonne CFR. Domestic base prices are hovering between €530 and €550 delivered, with some bids in Germany dipping below €540.
Service centers across Europe are adopting a cautious, selective purchasing strategy. In Italy, companies are reportedly incurring losses and struggling to secure insurance coverage, even for large clients. The upcoming implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is adding further uncertainty, especially for importers.
Spain stands out slightly, with stronger automotive sector demand and prices about €20 per tonne higher than in Italy. However, across most of Europe, the outlook remains muted until after the August production stoppages.
