Czech-based steelmaker Třinecké Železárny has announced a delay in its ambitious decarbonization project, pushing the completion date from 2028 to 2030. The project, which includes the construction of an electric arc furnace and supporting infrastructure, aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 55 percent compared to 1990 levels.
The postponement is attributed to several factors, including insufficient public support, uncertainties surrounding European Green Deal policies, and unfavorable market conditions. The company is actively negotiating with the Czech government and the European Union to secure adequate funding and regulatory clarity for the project.
Despite the delay, Třinecké Železárny continues to invest in other initiatives, such as a zero-emission briquetting line and the modernization of its Energetika Třinec power plant. These efforts are part of the company's broader strategy to align with EU carbon emission standards and enhance sustainability in steel production.
