Arab Countries See Slight Rise in Crude Steel Production in Q1 2025

According to the latest World Steel report, Arab countries' crude steel production experienced a modest growth of 1.0% in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 10.5 million tons. In March alone, production stood at 3.4 million tons, remaining unchanged from March 2024.

Egypt led the region's production in March with 828.3 thousand tons, though this marked a decrease of 4.8%. Saudi Arabia followed with 719.3 thousand tons, down by 17.8%. Algeria ranked third with 375.0 thousand tons, showing no change from the previous year.

During the January-March 2025 period, the Gulf area accounted for 48% of the region's total steel production, producing 5.1 million tons, with Saudi Arabia contributing 47% of this output. North Africa produced 4.5 million tons, making up 44% of the total, with Egypt leading at 57%. The Eastern Mediterranean area contributed 8% of total production, producing 884,000 tons, driven largely by Iraq, which accounted for 88% of this subregion's output.
