A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for Donghua Iron & Steel's electric-arc furnace (EAF) project in Tangshan, Hebei province. The project involves the installation of two new Danieli Zerobucket EAFs.
Danieli Zerobucket technology enables continuous and flexible charging of metallics, including scrap, DRI, HBI, and hot metal, with rapid tap-to-tap times. The new EAFs will tap liquid steel every 33 minutes when processing scrap and up to 40% hot metal, including hot metal decarburization.
The technology features continuous feeding of preheated scrap via process off-gases and eliminates EAF roof openings for bucket charging, resulting in energy savings of 50 kWh/ton. Safety and efficiency are enhanced through the Danieli Q-Reg electrode-regulation system and a sand EBT filling system.
Compared to conventional EAFs, Zerobucket technology achieves 10% lower power-on time, 40-50% lower power-off time, and significantly reduces emissions. The two new furnaces are scheduled to commence operations in Q2 2026.
Danieli Zerobucket EAF technology, with 31 orders in China, is shaping the steel industry’s transformation and upgrade efforts in the country.
