India's Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) has called for the elimination of import duties on molybdenum ore and the continuation of zero duty on nickel, ferroalloys, stainless steel scrap, and mild steel scrap in the national budget for 2025-26. The company emphasized the importance of reducing import duties on critical raw materials that are not available domestically. Molybdenum, used in ultra-strong, corrosion-resistant alloys, currently faces a five percent customs duty.

JSL's managing director, Abhyuday Jindal, highlighted the need for securing access to key raw materials and urged the government to increase the basic customs duty on stainless steel products to 15 percent for non-free trade agreement countries. These measures are aimed at protecting the domestic industry from low-priced imports and strengthening the stainless steel sector.
