The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has charged two Spanish companies and their managers with evading anti-dumping duties on steel imports from China. The indictment, filed on September 17, 2024, alleges that the companies misclassified finished steel sheets as semi-finished slabs to avoid higher duties.
This evasion is estimated to have caused nearly €10 million in financial damage to the EU. The EPPO is seeking prison sentences of over eight years and fines exceeding €25 million for the accused. Additionally, more than 30 properties linked to the defendants have been seized as a precautionary measure.
